Kunstverein Tiergarten is once again inviting you to the ORTSTERMIN art festival this year. From 20 to 22 September 2024, artists and cultural practitioners will open their doors in Moabit and the Hansaviertel to present their works and projects. This year's festival is dedicated to the provocative and multi-layered topic of meat - a term that not only stands for food, but also reflects ethical, cultural and historical issues. Animal foods have a special status that is embedded in a cultural system of values, traditions and symbols. The handling of meat differs in different religions and cultures and is associated with specific rules, customs and often also taboos or ideas of purity. Meat also permeates interpersonal relationships - from romantic partners to family ties - and also symbolises a patriarchal world view that manifests itself at all levels.
Two special exhibitions curated by the festival team are dedicated to the ambiguity and complexity of the term. While the special exhibition in the flesh at Erlöserkirche focuses on the human dimensions of the carnal, piece of meat at Haus Kunst Mitte - House for Contemporary Art explores the reinterpretation of the animal from living being to product. This creates an initial impression of the wide-ranging thematic network between humans and animals. The numerous tours through Moabit and the Hansaviertel neighbourhood, which are dedicated to various carnal aspects, also start here and at other locations.
Opening: Fri, 20.09.2024, 7 pm
